Hi John,
I nearly spilled my coffee this morning and it wasn’t because we’re about to have our third prime minister in less than a year. I found out something just as shocking.
The government is allowing fishing vessels with nets the size of 12 jumbo jets to decimate marine life - in supposedly 'protected' parts of the UK’s ocean. [1]
These monstrous fishing vessels are literally emptying our oceans of life - it’s no surprise that fish stocks are collapsing and small scale, sustainable fishermen are left with nothing to catch. Will you tell the government to stop the greed of the industrial fishing fleet? [2]

But it gets worse. The government is allowing these colossal fishing vessels to plunder parts of our oceans that are supposed to be protected, called Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). So, these precious marine habitats that are supposed to be safe havens for wildlife, are in fact being looted around the clock.
Not only is the government turning a blind eye to this destruction, but they are actually licensing it. Every year, they continue to allow these ships to have a license to decimate our Marine Protected Areas.
But, if enough of us speak out we can pressure the government to stop licensing this ocean destruction. Over 650,000 people have already signed our petition - can you add your name now and help us reach 700,000?

Protecting our oceans didn’t seem to be a priority for Liz Truss’s short-lived government and it looks like politicians have forgotten about their lofty promises to “take back control” of our waters. [3]
This means that we are going to have to force it onto the new government’s agenda ourselves. Growing our huge people-powered petition is a great start and the larger it gets, the harder it will be for this government to ignore us!
Thanks for all you do,
Aiyan Maharasingam
