** New report examines the implications of Dobbs for members of LGBTQ communities
------------------------------------------------------------
A new review of studies from the Williams Institute in collaboration with the Center on Reproductive Health, Law, and Policy ([link removed]) at UCLA Law finds that the 2022 Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization will have a unique and significant impact on LGBTQ people who can get pregnant.

A 2021 study ([link removed]) from the Williams Institute found LBQ cisgender women are statistically as likely to have had abortions in their lifetime as straight cisgender women. Policies that restrict abortion care are often accompanied by decreased access to other reproductive health services. The Williams Institute study found that LBQ women and transgender men are less likely to receive cancer screenings, such as Pap tests and mammograms.

** Scholars submit public comment in response to proposed Section 1557 rule
------------------------------------------------------------

In July 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a proposed rule to clarify that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, sex stereotyping, and sex characteristics is prohibited under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. Williams Institute scholars submitted a public comment to inform HHS as it finalizes the rule. The comment provides extensive research detailing discrimination experienced by LGBT people when accessing health care, the health disparities LGBT people face compared to non-LGBT people, and the negative effects of persistent stigma and discrimination on the health and well-being of LGBT people.
