I have something to tell you.

Friend, I have something to tell you:

Like more than 2.5 million New Yorkers, I have student loan debt.

And I know that there are millions more of us across the country, collectively holding more than $1.5 trillion in debt. But this year, President Biden has announced a new plan that would be a game changer for the millions of Americans like us: federal debt relief on student loans.

The President’s plan would provide up to $10,000 in relief to borrowers with federal student loans, and up to $20,000 in relief to borrowers who received Pell Grants.

If you earned less than $125,000 as an individual or less than $250,000 as a household in 2020 or 2021, you are likely to be eligible for relief.

You may have already received an email from your loan provider about this process: the application takes less than five minutes, and you don’t need your FSA ID or to upload any documents to apply. Just your name, email, phone number, date of birth, and Social Security Number. That’s it.

Go to https://studentaid.gov and apply today! It's that easy, and it’s that impactful.
