Friend,
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the new Executive Director of America’s Voice – Vanessa Cárdenas!
Vanessa’s broad professional experience, her American immigrant story and her grounding in community make her the ideal person for taking America’s Voice into the future and we are excited to have her on board in this new role.
Vanessa, who previously served as Deputy Director of America’s Voice and America’s Voice Education Fund, replaces our visionary founder Frank Sharry, after he announced last month that he was retiring.
She is an experienced leader, organizer, political strategist and policy expert on immigration, political disinformation, climate change, women’s political empowerment and Latino voters.
“I am fighting for families and communities like mine where native born citizens, immigrants without status and immigrants with status mix and share common dreams for a better and more inclusive country. I am proud to follow in the footsteps of Frank Sharry, who has been my friend and mentor for years, and humbled to take on the challenge of leading the organizations he founded and shaped,” says Vanessa.

Vanessa was born in Brooklyn, NY but was raised in Cochabamba, Bolivia by her mom and grandparents. When she was 14 years old, Vanessa and her mom migrated and returned to the U.S. and settled in the Washington, D.C. area where her extended family had moved in pursuit of better jobs and affordable housing. She began her activism in high school in Northern Virginia and is the first in her family to go to college.
Her deep commitment to the immigration rights movement, her experience working for social justice and expertise in communications will guide us through this tumultuous time for immigrants.
Join us in welcoming Vanessa to her new role and thanking Frank for the incredible work he did and the legacy he leaves behind.
