Team,

Like many Americans, I’ve become increasingly concerned with Big Tech’s power over our economy, our private data, and how we use the internet. It’s something I’ve been working on for several years now in the Senate, starting with the investigation into Russian election interference. We uncovered serious problems with misinformation and pressured companies like Facebook to make important transparency reforms.

It continued following the Dobbs decision, when we discovered that Google misled people searching for abortion clinics, sending women to non-medical organizations that try to convince them to go through with their unwanted pregnancies. I led a group of Democrats who pressured the company to make important changes to its search results so users are not misled by fake clinics. The Dobbs decision highlights how important privacy is becoming to Americans, particularly with regard to health data. Just this week, I pressed Mark Zuckerburg for answers about Meta’s tracking and collection of Americans’ private health data.

I’m proud of this progress, but we have to keep working. I’ve introduced several bills that would bring needed reforms to the tech industry—from greater transparency about data collection, to banning deceptive digital marketing practices, to holding companies accountable when they turn a blind eye to violence, fraud, and discrimination enabled by their platforms. The only way we can continue taking steps to hold Big Tech accountable is by electing Democrats up and down the ballot.

That’s why we’re asking: Can you chip in $5 today to keep Congress and Virginia blue?

While I’m proud of the bipartisan work I’ve been able to accomplish in the Senate, the truth is, there are important differences between the parties when it comes to Big Tech. If Republicans take control in Washington, our progress could be lost — or worse. It’s yet another big reason this election is so consequential.

If we are to continue our work holding Big Tech accountable, and make the internet a safer, fairer place, we need Democrats in the majority.

Pitch in today to help fuel our victory in November >>>

Thanks,

Mark Warner
