| | | Dear Friends, After 3 years apart, we couldn't be more grateful for everyone who helped make the Night to Fight Hunger: Sights and Sounds of Philly such a success. It was so great to see our Hunger Fighters together again, dancing and hula hooping the night away to SNACKTIME, all to raise the resources necessary to build a more food secure region. Thank you to everyone who joined us in person and to everyone who donated. Thank you to all of our silent auction donors and our generous sponsors, including Highmark Wholecare, Jackson Lewis, Share Food Program, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, O’Hagan Meyer, Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, Harrison Group, Cordelia and Don Delson, and Elizabeth and Bruce Rubin. |

| | | Public Health Emergency and Emergency Allotments Extended: The federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) has been extended another 90 days, from October 13, 2022 – January 11, 2023. Because of this, the Department of Human Services (DHS) can seek approval to continue distributing SNAP Emergency Allotments in Pennsylvania for a at least a few more months. |
| |
| SNAP Income Guidelines: On October 1, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) increased the SNAP Income Guidelines to 200% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines (FPIG) for all households. SNAP benefit amounts are based on household income and household expenses that the SNAP program counts. While some families with higher incomes will now be eligible for SNAP, not all households will have high enough expenses to qualify for a benefit. Watch our narrated video, created in collaboration with Community Legal Services, Just Harvest, and Philabundance, to learn more about the new guidelines and what they mean for families that apply. |

| Voter Registration Deadline: The deadline to register for the upcoming November 8 election is quickly approaching! Make sure you register by October 24. Even if you think you are already registered, we recommend that you check your voter registration status, which you can easily do online, through your local county voter registration office, or by calling 1-877-VOTESPA. |

| | We recently provided case management for a client who was denied SNAP benefits. This client moved to Philadelphia from Greenville, MS a few years ago. After losing her job, the client and her child lost their apartment. Even though they had been living in Philadelphia for a little while, the County Assistance Office (CAO) denied them benefits because they didn’t have proof of an address and thought that they still lived in Mississippi. |
| Because we are a community partner of the CAO, Alejandra our SNAP Hotline Manager, was able to speak with the case worker on behalf of the client and explain the situation. After that phone call and submitting a termination letter from the client's former employer, the CAO approved SNAP benefits for our client, using the CAO's address as the client's address. As you can see, applying and receiving SNAP benefits can be complicated in some instances, but our hotline team is here to help make it easier. If you would like assistance from our SNAP Hotline team, they are available to help Monday – Thursday from 9:00am to 5:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Give our SNAP Hotline team a call at 215-430-0556. Asistencia también disponible en Español. |
