John, I wanted to take a moment to talk to you today about one specific issue that’s at stake in this race: LGBTQ+ rights.

Doug Mastriano wants to ban same-sex marriage. He wants to stop gay couples from adopting children. He doesn’t think people in the LGBTQ+ community even belong here.

But John, there’s good news. We can prevent Mastriano from having the power to discriminate against LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians — but only if we win this race.

I will continue to advocate for LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians and fight for equality as Governor — just like I have for my entire career.

I’ve defended LGBTQ+ rights from the Trump Administration’s attacks as Attorney General, helped the first LGBTQ+ couples in Pennsylvania marry as a Montgomery County Commissioner, and pushed to expand protections for our Commonwealth’s LGBTQ+ communities as a State Representative.

As Governor, I’m committed to finally banning discrimation against LGBTQ+ individuals in Pennsylvania so that they can work, attend school, and seek housing with the same rights and protections as everyone else in the Commonwealth. I’ll expand our hate crime laws to cover our LGBTQ+ communities, invest in mental health resources to support LGBTQ+ youth, and finally ban conversion therapy for minors.

For too long, members of the LGBTQ+ community in Pennsylvania — and all across America — have not been afforded the protections they deserve. I will work tirelessly to ensure and expand the rights of the Commonwealth’s LGBTQ+ residents.
