Dear John ,
This past Saturday, at the Emgage Pennsylvania gala in Philadelphia, Attorney General and Gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro made a strong declaration, “We are in an important moment in our commonwealth and in our country. This is a moment that calls all of us to serve— it calls on all of us to do our part. It calls on all of us to push back against fear and intolerance for a more just and inclusive society.” We were blown away by the turnout at Emgage Pennsylvania’s gala. After so many months apart stuck behind screens, Pennsylvania gathered in style to celebrate, reflect and recommit to our mission - building a democracy that allows us all to thrive. |
We want to thank all of our speakers for making this event such a night to remember. Yasmin Elhady was our amazing emcee throughout the evening. Moses the Comic closed the event with a hilarious stand-up comedy set. In addition to Attorney General Shapiro, we were fortunate to also have Congressman Dwight Evans and Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon speak at our VIP pre-reception event.
We were also honored to be joined by several civic champions including: - City Commissioner Omar Sabir
- PA State Representative Jordan Harris
-
PA Democratic House Leader & State Representative Joanna McClinton
- PA State Senator Sharif Street
- PA State Representative candidate Tarik Khan
- Delaware State Representative Madinah Wilson-Anton
Furthermore, we honored three outstanding awardees that we felt have deeply impacted the Pennsylvania Muslim-American community this year. We presented these honors to Senator Sharif Street as Legislator of the Year, Ahmet Tekelioglu as Activist of the Year, and Imam Suetwedien Muhammad with the Lifetime Achievement Award. This past weekend, our community made a strong statement that while we have achieved major milestones - our energy for more is contagious. |
