Earlier this week, I went to The Villages — the largest retirement community in the U.S. — to endorse one of my favorite Social Security champions, Val Demings.

Demings is running for Senate in Florida on a platform of protecting and expanding Social Security’s earned benefits.

Val’s opponent, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), has a long history of hostility to Social Security and Medicare. Rubio once said that these vital programs “weakened us as a people”. In 2016, Rubio ran for President on a platform of raising the retirement age and privatizing benefits.

When Rubio was asked about fellow Florida Senator, Rick Scott’s, plan to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block every five years, he responded “I think it’s good.”

We need to protect our earned benefits by getting Marco Rubio out of the U.S. Senate. Chip in $5 to defeat Rubio and replace him with Social Security champion Val Demings.

Val Demings couldn’t be more different from Marco Rubio. She is a proud co-sponsor of the Social Security 2100 Act, saying that “It is long past time that we increase the benefits paid by Social Security and ensure that every American can retire with dignity and the health care and financial support that they need.”

At a debate this week, Demings wiped the floor with Rubio, exposing him as a spineless coward willing to do and say anything to win. During the debate, Rubio refused to comment on Rick Scott’s plan but said that Scott “is doing a great job”. Demings responded that "Governing is about priorities, and Social Security is a priority for me."
