Real Justice

John, failing to re-elect Dallas District Attorney John Creuzot could have serious consequences — even lethal in some cases.

Republican opponent Faith Johnson just this week said she would pursue the death penalty if elected, a stark contrast to John’s commitment to not use it in Dallas.

John has not sought the death penalty since he was elected.

The death penalty is barbaric. There’s no justice involved. It’s never been about justice. It’s punitive. A crude show of force. And it disproportionately kills far more Black and brown people than white people.

And we need DAs like John in office who won’t use this practice to kill more Black and brown people in jail.

Can you make a split donation right now to fund DA John Creuzot’s reelection and support Real Justice’s effort in 8 more races across the nation to install even more pro-justice DAs who will join John in this fight to reject the death penalty?

But that’s not all.

John got rid of prosecuting first-time misdemeanor marijuana offenses when he stepped into office.

He earned praise from researchers who published a report from SMU’s Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center. Researchers found Black people in Dallas County were grossly overrepresented among those arrested for low-level drug offenses.

But Johnson said she would start prosecuting people for marijuana offenses again — setting up unnecessary and useless programs for folks to avoid marijuana-related charges that should not even happen in the first place.

That’s not anything that’s rehabilitative,” Creuzot said about Johnson’s proposal to handle marijuana convictions. “That’s just make-busy nonsense.

It’s clear that if we don’t get John the support he needs to win, there could be serious consequences for criminal justice in Dallas and beyond. The racial disparities that John successfully reduced could become the reality again. And what happens in big cities like Dallas influences so many more.

So please, in the final few weeks ahead of Election Day, make a split donation right now to DA John Creuzot’s campaign and Real Justice so we can launch his campaign, and the 8 others we are working on, to victory.

Thank you,
