In Sierra Leone, where immunization is valued, but not fully adhered to, researcher Anne Karing worked with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and IPA to test the impact of a small social incentive on parents' decisions to take their children for vaccinations. Children received differently colored bracelets, that were highly visible, signaling whether and to what extent they had completed their immunization schedules.

The bracelets increased timely and complete immunization and at low cost.
The bracelets increased immunization rates, but the program was very costly to implement.
The bracelets did not change immunization rates, as most parents did not adhere to the program and removed the bracelets.
