Here’s the experts’ stark warning: If we burn the currently identified reserves of fossil fuels, then we will release more planet-heating emissions than we have emitted in aggregate since the industrial revolution.

John,

Environmentalists and scientists are sounding the alarm bells — and we must pay attention.

Here’s the experts’ stark warning: If we burn the currently identified reserves of fossil fuels, then we will release more planet-heating emissions than we have emitted in aggregate since the industrial revolution.

The scientific community estimates an enormous 3.5 trillion tons of greenhouse emissions will be emitted if governments permit identified reserves of coal, gas, and oil to be extracted and used. To put that in perspective, that is roughly seven times more than what we can afford to emit if we’re going to stay below the global warming goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Here’s the added concern, John.

It turns out that the reserves of the U.S. and Russia on their own would each be enough to single-handedly push us past 1.5 degrees.

Here’s the better news, John.

For the first time in U.S. history, the climate movement has the wind behind its sails because of the extraordinary efforts of this Congress to pass historic climate policy, such as the Inflation Reduction Act.

And leading the way in this fight in Congress are our SEEC members. SEEC members are working tirelessly to eliminate the need for fossil fuels and to replace them with clean and sustainable energy.

But as these new numbers show us, we have barely any breathing room to get off course, which will happen if we let Republicans take control of Congress again.

That’s why it’s crucial to elect our SEEC members in November. The progress we’re making is at stake. Can you rush a donation to help?

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
