On Tuesday, October 25, you are invited to join Health Affairs Editor-in-Chief Alan Weil for the next installment of our Policy Spotlight series, featuring Dave A. Chokshi, the former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and currently a visiting fellow at the New York Health Foundation.
Dr. Chokshi became well known in New York over the past few years for his strong but measured leadership responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2020, co-authored two commentary articles for Health Affairs on New York City’s response to the unprecedented public health emergency.
Trained as a primary care physician at the University of Pennsylvania, before his appointment as New York’s 43rd Health Commissioner, Dr. Chokshi served as the inaugural Chief Population

Earlier, he worked at the New York State Department of Health and the Louisiana Department of Health, before and after Hurricane Katrina. He also served as a White House Fellow and was the principal health advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
