John,
Donald Trump's three years in office have been an unfolding environmental disaster, with 85 different environmental protections gutted or repealed.1
But in 2020 — which could be his last year in office — Trump will be pushing for some of the biggest and worst polluter giveaways of his entire presidency: the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, the repeal of clean car emissions rules and, believe it or not, banning the use of many of the most important scientific studies at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
We're aiming to raise $500,000 by the end of the year to make sure we're ready for what will be one of the most important years ever for the environment.
The list of environmental rollbacks in the last three years of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. The Waters of the United States rule. Limits on emissions of mercury, arsenic and lead. Pulling the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement and repealing limits on global warming pollution from power plants.
Scientists have projected that Trump's rollbacks will result in an additional 80,000 deaths in the United States each year.2
But polluter lobbyists have seen the polls. They know Trump could be thrown out of office in 2020. So they are pushing hard to ram through as many environmental rollbacks as they can.
Food & Water Watch is on the front lines fighting back. Our legal team has 18 ongoing, active lawsuits against the EPA and polluters like Tyson, plus another 8 non-litigation issues and another 9 cases in development.
At the same time, we're engaged in over 50 state and local campaigns to stop or shut down fossil fuel infrastructure, including pipelines, fracked gas power plants, refineries and export terminals.
The year ahead is crunch time for the environment. Trump and the polluter lobbyists will be pushing hard to weaken and destroy as many environmental protections as they can before the end of his presidency, and we'll be fighting back.
