An important update from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington

Government officials with nothing to hide have no reason to be concerned about transparency. That is not what we are dealing with when it comes to President Trump.

We have seen time and time again that Trump’s efforts to withhold important information from the public actually tend to be thinly veiled efforts to protect himself. We have a hunch that’s why Trump is taking the fight to hide his tax returns all the way to the Supreme Court. When the president and his administration try to hide things from the public, our investigations have been some of the most effective tools to hold them to account. We have had major success in recent months with our transparency work, uncovering records that clearly show corruption and even outright lies.

CREW’s Freedom of Information Act investigation into President Trump’s disastrous and outrageously corrupt effort to host the G-7 Summit at his own resort turned up clear evidence that Trump was lying when he said that the Secret Service wanted the G-7 to be at Doral.

Another CREW investigation turned up hundreds of pages of records showing just how much influence three Mar-a-Lago members had within the Department of Veterans Affairs—and how frustrating their meddling was for government staffers.

We would not know as much about the Trump administration's corruption without CREW’s transparency work dragging these records out of the shadows. No matter what is to come in the new year, one thing is sure: Trump’s misconduct will continue, and when it does, it must not be allowed to remain secret.

Fight the secrecy of the Trump administration today, by making a matched donation. A generous donor has offered to match up to $50,000 in gifts from CREW supporters, through December 31st. Your gift will ensure that we can keep up the fight for a government that is accountable to the people in 2020 and beyond.

We have literally hundreds of records requests out to federal agencies, and we are eagerly waiting for responses. We have questions about Secretary Mnuchin’s investment in a Treasury fund, Donald Trump Jr.’s Mongolian hunting trip, withholding of aid to Ukraine, the revocation of grants to fight white supremacy, and so much more. We will keep you updated as we uncover more previously undisclosed information in this administration and bring more corruption to light.

Make a matched donation today to fuel this work. Your support is crucial to sustaining our fight against corruption for as long as it takes.

Thank you for your support and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year,
