Reevaluating the Ethical Issues in Pig-to-Human Heart Transplantation
New in the Hastings Center Report
The first pig-to-human heart transplant, which occurred in January at the University of Maryland Medical Center, provided an opportunity to examine several ethical issues to guide selection criteria for future clinical trials involving animal-to-human organ transplantation. Two physicians at the medical center discuss these issues, including the appropriate balancing of risks and benefits. Read the article.
A Housing Lens for Policy Ideas on Aging New Project Aims at Policymaking and Social Innovation
Most Americans want to age in place, but that goal relies on housing affordability, accessibility, and proximity to services. A new project, led by Hastings Center research scholar Nancy Berlinger, will apply a “housing lens,” developed through empirical bioethics research, to age-focused policymaking and social innovation. Google Health-The Hastings Center Bioethics Summit Making Sense of Artificial Intelligence in Health Guidelines
The Google Health Bioethics Summit 2022, hosted in collaboration with The Hastings Center, brought together experts from across academia and industry to explore the most pressing ethical issues in artificial intelligence and health care.
