Join us for DC Pro Bono Week 2022!   Every day we assist parents in securing repairs for their home to improve their children’s health and obtaining educational supports so their children can thrive in school. We partner with grandparents navigating the legal custody process, and we represent the best interests of children in contested custody disputes. But for the thousands of children and families we work with each year, we know there are thousands more who need legal support. It’s why our pro bono partnerships are so critical. Through our partnerships with more than 500 pro bono attorneys from the city’s top firms, in-house legal departments and government agencies, we’re able to assist even more DC children and families in piecing together solutions to the complex issues they face. Join us at one of two events next week as we celebrate and learn with one another during DC Pro Bono Week:   Access to Justice in Family Law: Everyone Deserves a Lawyer Monday, October 24 at 2pm-3pm (virtual) Even before the pandemic led to a huge increase in demand for pro bono legal services, more than 80% of litigants in DC family court were unrepresented by counsel. Tune into a panel with Children’s Law Center, D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center and Mother’s Outreach Network as we discuss how to increase representation for children, parents and third-party caregivers in an array of matters impacting families – and how access to justice means everyone deserves a lawyer. Click here to register.   Meeting Our Clients Where They Are: Serving Families East of the River Thursday, October 27 at 12pm-1pm (virtual) Through our work in medical clinics across the District, we've seen that children with asthma in Wards 7 and 8 are 20 times more likely to end up in the ER than those in Ward 3. The main causes include poor housing conditions like mold and pests. Join us and Bread for the City as we discuss how pro bono attorneys can help families address non-medical barriers to health. Crowell & Moring partner and Management Board member Keith Harrison said it best when he accepted the 2022 Pro Bono Champion Award on behalf of the firm at our Helping Children Soar Benefit last month: However you support Children’s Law Center's mission, financially or through your time and expertise, we’re grateful to partner with you and can’t wait to do more!
