Injustices big and small need to be met with resistance. Dividing walls need to come down. Injustice does not repair itself, and we are privileged and honored to be invited to join Christ in the good work of His kingdom justice. We are able to join the faithful cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and collectively work toward justice here on earth like it is in heaven.
In Psalms 1 we are presented with a powerful metaphor of a tree planted by streams of water, with roots that are deep and nourished. Those roots connect to a life in the Spirit, submitted to his story of redemption, in His time producing fruit and healthy leaves. This is the deeply rooted, sustaining tree we need to be, deeply planted for a life of resistance work.
Our work is to carry the water just a little further up the hill. Despite the long, exhausting journey that can feel disillusioning at times, with no guaranteed results in our lifetime, there is so much joy to be had.
Planted near the waters that sustain us, our roots can deepen and grow. When the winds or drought come we can go deeper, knowing that we will not uproot. We will not be moved.
