When we first came to Congress, DC strategists told Alexandria that she'd have to spend "five or six hours a day dialing for dollars."
For those who aren’t aware, "dialing for dollars" means calling wealthy people, lobbyists, elites, and anyone else who might write you a $2,800 check. We said that wasn’t going to happen, Alexandria wasn’t going to spend 1300 hours a year talking to wealthy donors instead of fighting for working-class Americans.
They said we’d never raise enough money to run our campaign on people-power. You proved them wrong. Thousands of folks from every part of the country chipped in -- with $3, $5, $10, or $27 -- to build a movement for the people.
Every day, we’re showing the entire political establishment that there’s a better way to run a campaign. You don’t have to cater to lobbyists, you don’t have to bow to large corporations, and don’t have to prioritize wealthy elites over your constituents.
This movement started on the doorsteps of New York’s 14th district — and we're never forgetting where we came from.
