Jeff Bezos Tells US to Prepare for Recession
Wall Street Journal: Jeff Bezos said the economy is flashing warning signs, joining other corporate leaders who have cautioned that the U.S. is headed for a recession. His comments come as tech firms have undergone waves of layoffs and as economic growth and hiring have slowed. A recent survey of economists by The Wall Street Journal also found that they expect the U.S. to enter a recession in the coming 12 months as the Federal Reserve raises interest rates and attempts to cool stubbornly high inflation ( Wall Street Journal). Jeff Bezos: Yep, the probabilities in this economy tell you to batten down the hatches ( Twitter). CNBC: Fed officials have also been warning that a recession is possible as a result of the monetary policy tightening, though they hope to avoid a downturn. Policymakers in September estimated that gross domestic product would grow just 0.2% in 2022 and rebound in 2023, but to only 1.2%. GDP contracted in both the first and second quarters this year, meeting a commonly held definition of a recession ( CNBC).

Biden on Releasing Oil Barrels from Strategic Reserve: "not politically motivated at all"
CNBC: President Joe Biden said oil companies need to use their record profits to ramp up production rather than to enrich shareholders… Gas prices are averaging $3.85 a gallon in the U.S., dropping off the record high of more than $5 a gallon, set in June. With less than three weeks until the midterm elections, Americans in polls increasingly put the economy and the price of gas at the top of their concerns ( CNBC). In order to reduce gas prices just before midterms, Biden has opted to release an additional 15 million barrels of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve. Townhall: BIDEN: Releasing more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is “not politically motivated at all” ( Townhall). Lucas Tomlilnson: Pence: The Strategic Petroleum Reserve “exists for national security” not “failed energy policies” ( Twitter). Charlie Bilello: The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve moved down for the 58th consecutive week to its lowest level since 1984. The 32% decline in reserves this year is the largest on record by a wide margin ( Twitter).

D.C. Passes Bill Allowing Non-Citizens to Vote in Local Elections
National Review: The D.C. Council, the legislative body representing Washington, D.C., sent a set of bills to Mayor Muriel Bowser’s desk on Tuesday, one of which will allow illegal immigrants to vote in local elections. The bill allowing illegal immigrants to vote passed on a near-unanimous 12-1 vote following its first reading earlier this week, after languishing in the city council for a decade. It expands previous legislation which allowed green-card holders to vote… There are believed to be over 50,000 illegals in the District of Columbia. The bill was passed alongside another initiative that would make mail-in voting a permanent feature of elections ( National Review). Fox News: Under the D.C. Home Rule Act, members of Congress are able to block bills passed by the legislature and cleared by the mayor. Once the bill is submitted, it can be voted down if the House and Senate pass Cotton’s resolution of disapproval within 30 days, or else the law will take effect. “Allowing illegal immigrants to vote is an insult to every voter in America,” Cotton, R-Ark., told Fox News Digital. “Every single Democrat should be on the record about whether they support this insane policy” ( Fox News).

US, Mexico to Propose “International Security Assistance Mission” in Haiti Amid Civil Unrest
Fox News: The United States and Mexico will introduce a resolution at the United Nations to deploy a “non-UN international security assistance mission” to Haiti to restore order on the island nation, which has been terrorized by roving gangs in the wake of former President Jovenel Moïse’s assassination last year. Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry requested “a specialized armed force” earlier this month to assist Haiti’s National Police in confronting the gangs. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, said at a security council meeting on Monday that the new proposal is “in direct response” to Henry’s request ( Fox News). Reuters: The Security Council is separately considering a sanctions regime to impose an asset freeze, travel ban and arms embargo on anyone who threatens the peace in Haiti. U.S. lawmakers introduced a bill on Monday to investigate and punish any political elites colluding with the gangs. Representatives of Russia and China responded to the proposal with skepticism, noting that some Haitian leaders have openly opposed the idea of a foreign intervention and questioned the effectiveness of such a force ( Reuters).

The Baby Formula Shortage Lingers Eight Months Later
Fox News: Parents nationwide are still struggling to find baby formula months after panic first ensued, and one mother is sharing her message for the Biden administration over the crisis. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, around 33% of American families were still struggling to find baby formula in September. Lawmakers have called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide answers as to why the agency had such a delayed response in adapting to the shortages while prices continue to soar ( Fox News). RNC Research: Americans are STILL having trouble finding baby formula — 8+ months after the crisis began. Karine Jean-Pierre says Biden is working “to make sure that we have progress to address this issue, this issue that is currently happening right now” ( Twitter). Dr. Mehemet Oz: “It is easier to get fentanyl than baby formula” ( Twitter).

Democrat Plan for Inflation? Ignore it and Press Abortion!
So much for the Inflation Reduction Act. Daily Wire: Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) told MSNBC on Wednesday that women across the Peach State need access to abortion to keep up with surging costs in Biden’s America. The election denier wasted no time defending the unholy sacrament of leftist politics. Children — not Democratic policies — are causing economic angst, she said ( Daily Wire). Tom Elliot: @staceyabrams says abortion can help address inflation issues: “Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas, it’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs. For women, this is not a reductive issue” ( Twitter). Matt Walsh: The Democrat cure for inflation is to kill more children. These people are cartoonishly evil. They aren’t even trying to hide it. Literal comic book villains at this point ( Twitter).

CDC Panel to Hold Final Vote on Adding COVID Vaccine to Recommended Childhood Vaccination Schedule
Daily Wire: The COVID vaccine may soon be added to the childhood vaccination program. If the vaccine is added, all public school children could be required to get the COVID vaccine. The Thursday schedule for a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) committee shows it is set to consider revisions to the child immunization program. Later on Thursday, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is also scheduled to vote on immunization schedules. Every U.S. state requires public school students to receive childhood immunizations, and many use the CDC’s list as a guide ( Daily Wire). Tucker Carlson: The CDC is about to add the Covid vaccine to the childhood immunization schedule, which would make the vax mandatory for kids to attend school ( Twitter).

Democrat Senate Candidate’s Past Comments Come Back to Haunt Her Just Before Midterms
Fox News: North Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Cheri Beasley previously said there is “something deeply troubling” about efforts from Republicans to limit “the ability of trans youth to have gender-affirming surgeries.” Beasley’s remarks came during a November 2021 Democratic Senate candidate forum put on by the LGBTQ+ Democrats of North Carolina… Beasley’s comments are in lockstep with many comments made by top officials in the Biden administration, including those from transgender Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, who said during a July 2022 interview with MSNBC that Americans must “affirm and support and empower these youth” to receive “gender affirmation treatment” in their respective states ( Fox News). RNC Research: North Carolina Democrat Senate candidate Cheri Beasley says it’s “deeply troubling” and “very dangerous” that irreversible sex reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for KIDS are not paid for by taxpayers ( Twitter).

Putin Declares Martial Law in Ukraine-Captured Regions
Financial Times: Vladimir Putin has declared martial law in four occupied regions and given security forces sweeping powers in a sign the Russian president is struggling to regain the military initiative nearly eight months into the invasion of Ukraine. The move, which includes broad restrictions on travel, including vehicle checks and “economic mobilization” in much of western and southern Russia, is Putin’s latest escalation as his army continues to cede ground to Ukraine. Demanding the “entire system of state administration” contribute to the war effort, Putin on Wednesday authorized Russia’s governors to maintain public order, ensure supplies for the armed forces and to protect critical infrastructure. The measures, which are one step below martial law, cover eight regions bordering Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014 ( Financial Times). Associated Press: Putin’s army is under growing pressure from a Ukrainian counteroffensive that has clawed back territory. The Russian leader is also faltering after the sabotage of a strategically important bridge linking Russia with Crimea, assassinations of Kremlin-installed officials in Kherson and mistakes he himself has admitted in his partial troop mobilization ( Associated Press).

Netflix to Charge Extra for Password Sharing
New York Post: Netflix warned streaming freeloaders their days are numbered as the media giant plans to implement its long-promised crackdown on account sharing. The company said it may begin charging subscribers an extra $3-$4 per month early next year for each additional profile that appears on the “Who’s Watching?” screen during its quarterly earnings call Tuesday. Executives first teased the sharing surcharges in April after Netflix reported poor first-quarter earnings that were battered by a plunge in subscribers ( New York Post).
