We don’t need DNA kits for children; we need gun safety You are receiving this email as one of Robin’s most engaged followers. Hi John, I was excited—for about a second—to read that Texas is going to help our schoolchildren learn about DNA: Finally! I have been pushing for science education in our schools for years, and it seemed like someone finally had listened. But as I read more, my heart broke. And I wanted to throw up. The state of Texas is distributing DNA and fingerprint identification kits for our schoolchildren—not as learning tools. It’s so their lifeless, bloodied bodies can be identified when they are slaughtered at the school that was supposed to keep them safe. I honestly don’t know what to say. I know—and I think all of you know—that there’s a problem when we have to plan for our children’s deaths. I know—and I hope all of you know—that my opponent, Dan Crenshaw, thinks there’s no problem with guns in this country. That I’m the crazed zealot because I support common-sense gun control. I know—and I wish Dan could know—what it’s like to worry after saying goodbye to my children in the morning, not knowing whether those might be the last words I say to them. I know—and I wish this on no one—what it’s like to be friends with someone whose child didn’t come home. And what I know—most of all—is that we can’t pretend that the status quo is fine, while at the same time preparing for a parent’s worst nightmare. How is it possible that collecting DNA and fingerprints to identify dead children is the best solution that Republicans could come up with? We need real leaders with real solutions. That’s why I’m running for Congress. And that’s why I’m a Gun Sense Candidate and why I’ve been endorsed by the Newtown Action Alliance. I need your help to make sure that Dan and his Republican cronies stop sacrificing our kids on the altar of politics.
