Gov. Youngkin signed an executive directive to curb Virginia’s teacher shortage but did not address their stagnant salaries. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

John, Gov. Youngkin is finally addressing Virginia’s teacher shortage, but not how you’d think.

Last month, he signed an executive directive lowering licensure requirements to become a teacher. His administration is now actively recruiting new teachers on social media with a new “Become a Teacher” campaign. This program targets retired teachers, teachers in other states, and those with non-teaching degrees and walks them through a watered-down certification process.

We know the best way to recruit new teachers is to treat and pay current teachers like the caring, educated professionals that they are. But, that’s somehow lost on Youngkin. He wants to continue his crusade against teaching honest American history and treating our trans youth with dignity. He has created a toxic professional and political environment for our teachers and his solution is simply to lower the bar.

John, Virginia has some of the hardest-working teachers in the country. We need to respect them, pay them, and listen to them. And, we need to elect leaders who have their backs. Hala will advocate for educators and students across the Commonwealth, but first we have to send her to Richmond. Will you help us do that by contributing $5 to our campaign today?

Youngkin’s new radical agenda is not what our public schools need. His awful trans student policy, coupled with this attempt to draw new teachers in without bettering their work environment, shows he is out of his depth, and out of touch with Virginians.

It’s only October, and we’ve seen massive student protests, major city school boards refusing Youngkin’s policies, and new and retired teachers thrown into the storm. We need to give teachers the freedom to teach and uplift their students as they see fit. Richmond needs leaders like Hala to stop Youngkin’s politicization of the classroom. Will you help us elect her by donating $5 today?
