As the seasons turn, it is once again time for our Fall Membership and Redistribution Pledge Drive. The big priority for this drive and the rest of the year is for us to meet our budget, which means raising about $1.7 Million
This year, I want to be earnest and transparent with you, our community. As I prepared to write this launch email, I lamented the trend in email fundraising of false urgency and feigned honesty. Think: “we need to raise $10,000 by midnight tonight to meet our goals; our opponents are crushing us on the airwaves” etc…
I’ve always acknowledged vulnerability, honesty, and earnest care as strengths in my leadership. I am afraid that my voice, these days, will come across as trite or artificial. But I’m choosing to push against that, to invite you to receive this email with care and curiosity.
We have three types of goals with these drives, and we’re doing great (but not quite at the finish line) with two of them.
We are over $92 Million towards our goal of $100 Million in Redistribution Pledge to movements! This is a huge way we follow-through on our commitment to movements and our mandate from them to be moving new money every year to the grassroots. If you haven’t filled out the pledge yet, please do so [[link removed]] we can add your redistribution to our collective impact.
We are just under our high water mark and goal of 1100 members; as folks renew and join for the first time I trust we are going to meet that goal. But everyone has to do their part.
Most importantly, the priority of this drive is to finish the year strong and raise our budget. It’s going to take everyone following through on their pledges, new members, and unpledged renewals.
There has been great progress made towards our goal, but are still behind where we hoped to be going into the Drive. I know that the resources are there in this community, and that with each other’s support, we can end the year abundantly!
In that spirit I invite you to get your pledges in early; this year we’re ending the drive November 21st. And every year we’re waiting on contributions into the last week of December, and sometimes even the beginning of January . Giving early is a meaningful and simple act of care for organizations and staff of those organizations, including ours . Giving early also helps us get a clearer picture of the gap we need to fundraise, and the clearer that is, the easier it will be to meet that challenge.
Now is also the time to join RG [[link removed]] for the first time, and commit to your own leadership while committing to building our collective power to bring about the structural change we need so RG doesn’t have to exist for future generations.
If you’re up for renewal [[link removed]] , or it’s been awhile since you paid dues, this is also the time to renew your membership; whether it’s a renewed commitment to getting involved or to supporting our work.
Lastly, make sure your redistribution pledge [[link removed]] is up to date and build on your RG dues by also giving early to our partners the Movement for Black Lives and Center for Popular Democracy [[link removed]] .
I trust that as a community we’ll meet our goals if we all do our part. When we do, our organization will be more powerful and healthy because of it. There’s a lot in this country that needs fixing, and movements need RG at our best to do our collective part in winning.
