Can You Get Arrested for Voting?

Dear Friends,

You may have heard the outrageous news. Several voters were recently arrested in Florida for an unexpected reason. They voted! The onus shouldn’t be on voters to understand the law better than state officials, yet that seems to be the expectation. It’s one of the reasons we’ve been working in Florida since we launched 5+ years ago. Between the confusion previously surrounding Amendment 4, the vast number of individuals without a Florida ID, and now this, our work is more crucial than ever.

With early voting beginning next week in several Florida counties, we’re not only helping people get what they need to get their government-issued photo IDs, but also working to ensure our election guides reach as many people as possible. They’re nonpartisan and provide accurate and concise information on voting, candidates, registration eligibility, and what to do if a problem arises.

Help Us Get Voters to the Polls

Lowell is a returning citizen and veteran who was without an ID and his vital documents for 13 years. Thanks to our team, he registered to vote and will be an informed voter when he goes to the polls.

Just as we’ve done every other election season over the past 5 years, we’re hustling to get out the vote in Florida. That includes working with county jails through our Vote by Mail in Jail program to help eligible voters who are awaiting trial or serving misdemeanor sentences to legally cast their ballots.

Time is running out to engage voters and make sure that everyone knows who can vote, how to vote, and feels comfortable heading to the polls.

Please give what you can to help us get out the vote! We can’t let fear and confusion keep even one eligible voter from casting a ballot this fall.
