John, these days, it's impossible to escape the effects of the climate crisis. Just as temperatures began to cool after a summer of record-breaking heatwaves, a series of devastating, deadly hurricanes hit American homes throughout the Gulf and Southeast.
These storms have cost millions in economic damage. They have displaced people from their homes, while others are stuck in their houses without power, clean water, or any path toward returning to normalcy.
It shouldn't be this way – and it doesn't have to be. But right now, we're just not doing enough to change things.
The climate crisis is a five-alarm fire, and I have had it with my colleagues who want to deny what is happening and just sit idly by. The choices we are making (and not making) are leading our planet closer and closer to a true climate catastrophe that we won't recover from. And if we don't start doing things differently soon, we are only going to see more disasters like these in the months and years ahead.
I'm proud of the progress that Democrats have made so far: making essential investments in climate resilience, committing to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the agricultural industry as it makes climate-minded changes, and and so much more. Even so, there's a lot more still to accomplish. And to do that we need more leaders in the Senate who are going to listen to scientists, heed their warnings, and actually make change happen.
But now, as the midterm elections rapidly approach, Mitch McConnell and his party of thumb twiddlers and Big Oil sellouts are just one seat away from taking back the majority! There is simply too much at stake to let that happen. Please, will you make a donation before 11:59 p.m. to help me keep the Senate in the hands of a party and leaders who will fight for our planet? I'm really counting on you here, John.

Thank you for standing with me and defending our planet.
