I have some great news to share, John!

 

Earlier this week, the Indianapolis City-County Council passed a balanced bipartisan $1.46 billion budget which includes record investments in public safety, infrastructure, and mental health care.




Some highlights of this new balanced budget include...

 


 




 Record Investments in Public Safety -- This budget contains a record amount of investment in our city’s public safety, including making IMPD's first-year salary one of the highest for law enforcement in the Midwest. It also includes a $10k hiring bonus for new officers. This unprecedented spending builds on our three-year, $150 million violence reduction strategy.


 


 Prioritizing Mental Health -- We are allocating funds to establish a 24-hour clinician-led emergency response team that will respond to people experiencing nonviolent mental health crises, in addition to continuing our existing Mobile Crisis Assistance Team.

 


 Building Tomorrow’s Infrastructure -- A 5-year, $1.1 billion plan to build and improve roads, bridges, trails and sidewalks. We are also hiring a new traffic engineer that will be tasked with reviewing fatal traffic incidents.

 


 Helping Indianapolis stay in school -- The Indy Achieves Completion grant program will receive additional funding to help 200 more Marion County residents stay in school by covering bills at Ivy Tech Community College or IUPUI. This year alone, the program is helping almost 500 students finish their education.

 








The bipartisan passage of this balanced budget is a major victory for Indianapolis residents. It includes record investments that will help keep our city safe, build the future infrastructure we need, and enhance the quality of life in every neighborhood throughout Marion County.
