Dear John

The month of October is Youth Substance Use Prevention Month and at SAM we are having a lot of conversations about youth marijuana use. I wanted to share a few videos to help you better discuss this issue. I also want to let you know that I will be on Dr. Phil this Friday (10/21) to discuss the realities of legalization.

We put together a short, sharable video that details what the industry doesn’t want you to know about marijuana use and legalization.

This is a great educational video where I debunk some of the myths of the industry like the harms of high potency marijuana, the rise in youth use and Cannabis Use Disorder after legalization, and the social justice narrative that isn’t actually about social justice. I also address the popular argument that we should regulate marijuana like alcohol.

There is also a longer version with even more information on myths the industry keeps on pushing. This video gives a great overview on the consequences of legalization.

I hope you will watch and share these videos. We plan to do more educational videos like this in the future, so stay tuned for more videos like this on other topics coming soon.

Recently, I was honored to join Dr. Phil on his show to discuss the harms of legalization, especially the harms it has on our kids. This conversation will be aired this Friday (10/21) on Dr. Phil’s show. Tune in to hear not only from me but from my friends: Laura Stack, who shares her tragic story, Dr. Roneet Lev, an ER physician; Heidi Swan, James and Charmaine Hays, and others.

I am really excited for you to see this conversation and I hope that you'll tune in or set your DVR.

I am grateful whenever I can share my expertise with the media, but I, and the SAM team, is also here to be a resource for you. As you look at your calendar for next year, we at SAM would love to host or participate in a training event in your community. Please see our training page for details.

As always, thank you for all of your hard work and efforts to help us spread the word about marijuana’s harms and spread the word about smart policy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Sabet
