News from Representative Lauren Underwood

October 19, 2022

Dear Neighbor,

I have major news: Our state is receiving nearly $150 million in new funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to ensure safe drinking water for Illinoisans!

Illinois has more water service lines that contain toxic lead than any other state. This is unacceptable! We all know how important safe drinking water is for our health, but for decades, Illinois has suffered from a lack of federal investment in our infrastructure.

But thanks to new funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law we passed in Congress, Illinois will soon receive federal funding to help ensure that our infrastructure is strong, and our community has reliable access to clean drinking water.

I was thrilled to make this announcement alongside White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu, who I welcomed to the 14th District. We toured the Aux Sable Wastewater Treatment Plant in Joliet, which has received federal funding in the past to improve their facility.

Congresswoman Underwood makes an announcement. Behind her stand White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu, Congressman Bill Foster, IEPA Director John Kim, U.S. EPA Region 5 Administrator Debra Shore, and Mayor Bob O'Dekirk.Alongside Coordinator Landrieu, I announced new funding to deliver clean drinking water!

Everyone deserves access to safe, reliable drinking water, and I will continue my work to bring federal dollars to our communities to make this a reality.

Sincerely,
