PV Middle School East Road Dedication
|
On Saturday I also attended the Perkiomen Valley Middle School East Road Dedication, renaming the road that encircles PV East as Tammanund Circle and subsequently changing the mailing address to 5 Tammanund Circle.
Chief Tammanund was the leader of the Lenape tribe who signed a peace agreement with William Penn and English settlers in the 1680s under an elm tree that helped to develop amicable relations between the Lenape people and settlers. While he was known by many names, the spelling of Tammanund was approved by the Delaware Tribe of Indians and the 5 represents the five legitimate distinct nations of the Lenape community.
Representatives from the Delaware Tribe of Indians as well as an indigenous drum group known as Blazing Bear also took part in the dedication.

Arcola Planetarium Grant Award
|
On Tuesday night I was happy to present Arcola Intermediate School in the Methacton School District with a $100,000 grant to help fund the restoration of their Mallon Planetarium. One of the last planetariums in Pennsylvania, Methacton’s planetarium educates thousands
of students every year to understand our place in the universe and on earth. Looking at the night sky we see distant stars, far away galaxies, all-consuming black holes, and fiery red giants, all predicting the future as well as looking back into the past. A truly mesmerizing sight, the planetarium will hopefully continue to impart a love for astronomy and a greater awareness of the world around us.
Congratulations!
