John --

There’s a growing legal movement to have the rights of nature recognized under the law.

We’d like to know what you think of the idea, John: Should nature (think: rivers, mountains, forests, and animals) also have legal rights?

YES [[link removed]] NO [[link removed]]As climate change, deforestation, water pollution, and more threaten our green spaces, we can all agree that more must be done to protect our planet and its natural beauty. And recognizing the rights of nature could be a tool to help hold polluters and bad actors accountable for their damage – or prevent it from happening in the first place .

This movement has already started to take hold here in the United States . Like in Orange County, Florida, where voters took action to give nature legal rights, making it the largest municipality in the country to pass a law like this. Orange County, FL now stands alongside over 30 other municipalities across the country who have done the same.

It’s also happening in the Amazon , where an International Rights of Nature Tribunal met to define that nature has the same fundamental right to exist and regenerate as humans do.

And we’re seeing legal action being given to nature in nations like Bangladesh, New Zealand, Ecuador, Uganda, and Mexico.

Here at SEEC PAC, we’re all for policies that protect our environment, whether it is strengthening clean air and water protections, preserving public lands, or defending endangered species. But we want to hear from you, John. Do you think that nature should be granted fundamental legal rights?

YES [[link removed]] NO [[link removed]]Thanks for your input,

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
