All students deserve a fair shot at going to college and the career opportunities that follow, regardless of their family’s finances, where they grew up, or their racial and ethnic background. But systemic and racial inequities still prevent all students from having equal access to educational opportunities, which prevents large portions of our society from reaching their professional potential and therefore holding back the workforce at large.

Affirmative action helps to expand higher education opportunities to those who have been historically denied by ensuring that the many talents and experiences of students of color aren’t overlooked in admissions processes that tend to be biased against them.

On Monday, October 31, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases concerning the consideration of race as a factor in college admissions at Harvard College and the University of North Carolina. Join AFJ outside the Supreme Court from 8am-10am on October 31 to show the overwhelming support for diversity in higher education and affirmative action. It is important to demonstrate that affirmative action policies benefit students of color, but also everyone. A more diverse pool of college graduates leads to a more well-rounded and dynamic workforce by unlocking the potential of traditionally overlooked communities and individuals.

While the spotlight is on the Court that day, it is our opportunity to ensure our leaders in Washington hear that message loud and clear, and we need your voice to help amplify it! AFJ President Rakim Brooks will be among those speaking that day on the enormous stakes of what the Supreme Court decides in these cases.
