Today is SUDEP Action Day, a day in which we honor the memories of those we’ve lost by bringing the epilepsy community together to raise awareness of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy), to educate on the risks factors associated with SUDEP, and to encourage people with epilepsy to engage in prevention strategies to reduce the occurrence of SUDEP.
In support of SUDEP Action Day, we have developed informative content for you to watch, read, and share all week long. SUDEP can happen to anyone with epilepsy. It is heartbreaking that we still hear from parents, caregivers, and loved ones that they were never told about SUDEP and how to minimize the risks. Please encourage your friends and family to learn more about SUDEP and to share broadly all week the programs below to help raise awareness:
-
Infographics: Images containing data and graphics on SUDEP Risk Factors and Ways to Mitigate Risk for sharing on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
-
Seizing Life®: Today's episode of Seizing Life with Hannah Whitten, a CURE Epilepsy Board Member who lost her brother to SUDEP. The episode will be available on Facebook on today at 12 pm CT and then on our website shortly thereafter.
-
CURE Epilepsy Discovery: Tomorrow’s CURE Epilepsy Discovery highlights new SUDEP findings resulting from research funded by CURE Epilepsy. The Discovery will be published on the News page of our website.
-
Webinar: SUDEP & the Heart. This webinar will help viewers learn how altered cardiac function may lead to SUDEP and why it is critical for the epilepsy community to take a holistic approach to fully understand the biological changes that ultimately cause SUDEP.
- Webinar: Breathing and SUDEP: Research & the Influence of Seizures on the Respiratory System. This webinar helps viewers understand how inherited neuronal or cardiac diseases may lead to electrical disturbances in both the brain and heart, how altered cardiac function may lead to SUDEP, and why it is critical for the epilepsy community to take a holistic approach to fully understand biological changes that ultimately cause SUDEP.
