Dear friend,

In 2018 FAMM released state-by-state memos describing every compassionate release program in the country. We found that a lot of things about state compassionate release programs don't work. And we learned that very few people benefit.

So this year, we decided to take a deeper dive and grade the states.

Today, we are delighted to unveil the State Compassionate Release Report Card Project: [link removed] [[link removed]]

The report was written by Mary Price, FAMM's General Counsel.

We graded every state program in the country. It probably won't surprise you to learn that most states flunk compassionate release. But FAMM is here to help change that; the Project comes with a toolkit, which stakeholders and lawmakers can use to fix failing programs.

We hope the State Compassionate Release Report Card Project spurs discussion, concern, outrage, and action. Take a look at the state report cards, read over the toolkit, and check out the included map that will help you compare your state's compassionate release grade with those of other states: [link removed] [[link removed]]
