China Recruiting Former British Air Force Pilots for Training

CNBC: China’s military is headhunting ex-British Air Force pilots for their training skills and expertise — and the U.K. government is working to stop it, the U.K.’s Ministry of Defense said Tuesday. Some 30 former British military pilots are believed to have gone to work for China to train personnel in its People’s Liberation Army. Recruitment is said to be ramping up, with former pilots being offered large paychecks to work for the Chinese (CNBC). Reuters: The British government said on Tuesday it was taking steps to stop China trying to recruit serving and former British military pilots to train the Chinese armed forces. “We are taking decisive steps to stop Chinese recruitment schemes attempting to headhunt serving and former UK Armed Forces pilots to train People’s Liberation Army personnel in the People’s Republic of China,” a Ministry of Defense spokesperson said in a statement (Reuters).

Biden Looks to Release at Least 10 Million More Barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Fox News: The Biden administration is planning to release another 10 million to 15 million barrels of oil from the nation’s emergency stockpile in an effort to balance markets and prevent additional increases in gasoline prices. The release of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve would be the latest portion of a 180-million-barrel program that started earlier this year. The administration is also expected to provide details this week regarding its plans to restock the emergency oil stockpile (Fox News). Reuters: Rising retail gasoline prices have helped boost inflation to the highest in decades, posing a risk to Biden and his fellow Democrats ahead of the Nov. 8 midterm elections, in which they are seeking to keep control of Congress (Reuters).

New England Projects Rolling Blackouts in Winter Due to Depleted Supplies of Gas

Daily Mail: Residents in New England cities are facing rolling blackouts this winter if temperatures drop for a prolonged cold snap because of lower fuel supplies. The region relies on natural-gas imports to bridge the gaps during the winter but is now having to compete with European countries for shipments of liquefied gas. Russia’s halt of most pipeline gas to the continent has ramped up the price and demand for natural gas across the globe (Daily Mail). Ed Morrissey: Utility companies in New York, Connecticut, and other New England states projected supply shortfalls more than a decade ago. Fortunately, New York and Pennsylvania sit on some of the richest natural gas resources in the country, found in the Marcellus shale deposits. The companies requested new, higher-volume pipelines to carry natural gas to meet the spiraling demands of New York City, particularly at the furthest end of the gas lines in Long Island. They also urged the development of local gas production to feed those lines. Similar situations were noted all across New England. New York refused to approve new gas lines and passed a moratorium on natural gas drilling in the state (Hot Air).

Tulsi Gabbard Campaigns for Kari Lake in Arizona

NBC: Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is scheduled Tuesday to campaign for Kari Lake, the Republican nominee for governor of Arizona, just days after she announced she was leaving the Democratic Party. Lake’s campaign said Gabbard would introduce Lake at a GOP forum in Chandler. Gabbard tweeted out a statement early Tuesday saying she looked forward to supporting Lake, who she said “isn’t afraid to call out the elite cabal of permanent Washington and the military industrial complex and their propagandists in the mainstream media” (NBC). Hill: Gabbard has criticized the Biden administration for months, but she quickly made her departure from the party clear as she began campaigning for Republicans within days, appearing on Monday with Don Bolduc, New Hampshire’s Republican Senate nominee (Hill).

President Biden Looks to Codify Roe Should Democrats Win Midterms

Associated Press: President Joe Biden promised Tuesday that the first bill he sends to Capitol Hill next year will be one that codifies Roe v. Wade — if Democrats control enough seats in Congress for Biden to sign abortion protections into law — in a speech designed to energize his party’s voters just three weeks ahead of the November midterms. Biden said “the only sure way to stop these extremist laws that are putting in jeopardy women’s health and rights is for Congress to pass a law.” He acknowledged that right now, “we’re short a handful of votes” to reinstate abortion protections at the federal level, urging voters to send more Democrats to Congress (Associated Press). CNBC: Biden’s announcement comes exactly three weeks from Election Day, when voters will decide which party controls both chambers of Congress. Republicans are favored to win the House, an outcome that would make it all but impossible to pass a bill to codify abortion rights. Democrats, who control both chambers of Congress, tried to approve legislation to enshrine Roe into law this year. Republicans denied Democrats — who hold 50 seats in the Senate — the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster in the chamber (CNBC).

Pelosi Refuses to Accept Americans Care About Inflation, Crime in New Polling

Fox News: Appearing on MSNBC Tuesday afternoon, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., defended President Biden’s leadership from critics within her own party and dismissed a poll showing that voters were more concerned about the economy than abortion. Host Andrea Mitchell confronted Pelosi with a video clip of Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., demanding “new blood” within the Democratic Party after being asked if she’d support President Biden running again in 2024. However, Pelosi shrugged off calls for new leadership and lavished praise on President Biden (Fox News). Tom Elliot: @SpeakerPelosi: “I don’t agree” w/ polls showing Americans care about soaring crime & inflation (Twitter). Katie Pavlich: Pelosi’s response comes shortly after she claimed that not only are Democrats in good shape ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, but that she was confident her party will increase their majority (Townhall).

Igor Danchenko Found Not Guilty on All Counts of Lying to Federal Agencies

Wall Street Journal: Igor Danchenko, a consultant whose information comprised the bulk of the 2016 “Steele dossier,” was acquitted Tuesday of lying to the FBI, leaving special counsel John Durham with losses in both cases he took to trial as his yearslong inquiry into the FBI investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election winds down. Several of Mr. Durham’s own FBI witnesses appeared to undercut his allegations and said they believed Mr. Danchenko had been truthful (Wall Street Journal). Daily Wire: Danchenko’s trial was Durham’s last chance at securing a conviction in his investigation into the origin’s of the Trump/Russia hoax. As it stands, Durham has been able to secure only one guilty verdict: former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty to altering an email used to obtain a warrant to surveil Trump’s 2016 campaign. Clinesmith was sentenced to probation in January 2021 (Daily Wire).

California Announces an End to State of Emergency from COVID in Alignment with President Biden

Fox News: California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday the state will end its COVID-19 state of emergency in February 2023, nearly three years after it was first declared. The months-long timeline will better prepare the state health care system for any surge in COVID cases that may result after the holidays and will give local governments time to make necessary changes, Newsom’s office said (Fox News). This seems to be in lockstep with President Biden extending the emergency a couple weeks ago. Washington Times: The Biden administration on Thursday extended the COVID-19 public health emergency through Jan. 11 despite the president’s declaration last month that the pandemic was “over.” The extension to the public health emergency, which was first declared in January 2020, accompanies officials’ warnings of a potential surge in infections over the winter (Washington Times).

Blackrock Sees Further Divestment with Missouri Withdrawing $500 Million

Bloomberg: Missouri withdrew $500 million of pension assets from BlackRock Inc., criticizing the firm for prioritizing ESG concerns over shareholder returns. “We should not allow asset managers such as BlackRock, who have demonstrated that they will prioritize advancing a woke political agenda above the financial interests of their customers, to continue speaking on behalf of the state of Missouri,” state Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick said Tuesday in a statement. Earlier this month, Louisiana’s treasurer said his state would pull $794 million from BlackRock funds, part of a growing backlash over the firm’s stance on sustainable investing (Bloomberg). Washington Examiner: The Missouri divestment represents another case of Republican officials targeting BlackRock in recent months as attacks against ESG and stakeholder capitalism grow in the lead-up to the midterm elections. ESG, and BlackRock specifically, has become a political punching bag for Republican statewide officials such as treasurers and attorneys general (Washington Examiner).

Eric Swalwell Releases Abortion Ad as a Scare Tactic

Townhall: On Monday night, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) tweeted out a particularly fear-mongering ad from his campaign account in which a mother is pulled away from the dinner table and arrested in front of her husband and two children for having had an abortion. “MAGA Republicans want women arrested for having an abortion. This is what that looks like,” the tweet claims (Townhall). LifeNews: 100% FALSE. No abortion ban in the history of America has ever arrested women for having an abortion (Twitter).
