Friends –
As some of you may know, I recently joined the Outreach Team at The Heritage Foundation after nearly a decade on Capitol Hill. For those of you who I have yet to meet, my name is Alexa and I’m the new Director of Coalitions. I grew up just outside of Portland, Oregon where I had a front row seat to the extreme policies of the Left and the destructive impact they had families and the community. That’s why I’m passionate about building strong, conservative coalitions. We have a duty to shed light on the despair the Left demands and chart a path to victory on behalf of the American people – a victory that will restore self-governance and support a flourishing civil society. This is the mission The Heritage Foundation embarked on almost 50 years ago and it’s why I’m thrilled to join this team, in this role, as we embark on the next 50-year journey to fight for America’s future <[link removed]>.
People who work in coalitions, especial in the conservative movement, often get asked “what is a coalition” or “how do you build a successful one.” Humor me as I take you on a trip down memory lane to middle school science class – back when schools taught science not social revolution. Newton’s 1st law of motion states that an object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion. The conservative movement is an object in motion, and through immense adversity we’ve remained in motion. I won’t bore you with Newton’s 2nd law, but it covers the concepts of acceleration and force. Here is where we find coalitions and their critical importance. Coalitions are the people we bring together, united around a goal, to apply a force for victory, and accelerate the conservative movement to achieve our shared successes. It’s not always easy, especially not when the Left is constantly pushing in the opposite direction, but it’s always worth fighting for the America people.
This is what our team has been up to. We’ve been on offense, every day, building strong coalitions that apply the strategic force and accelerate our path to victory.
Case and point…..
Last week our team deployed to Michigan to fight back against the Left’s aggressive assault on children: a dangerous ballot initiative known as Prop 3. Because Heritage maintains strong partnerships across the country, we were able to quickly team up with our friends at Michigan Family Forum and help build a powerful coalition – one capable of forcing and accelerating a much-needed narrative shift. Together with our allies on the ground, we provided the tools to educate and expose Prop 3 for what it actually is, not what
the Left is saying it is. A broad coalition of state and local allies are now better equipped to tell their community the truth. People are coming awake to a dangerous policy proposal that would ultimately enshrine radical abortion laws as an absolute right in the Michigan Constitution AND open the door to minors bypassing parental consent on abortion and puberty blockers.
Because our team at Heritage invests in ongoing partnerships with allies, we were well positioned to come alongside those doing incredible work on the ground and help facilitate a strong coalition. Now the conservative movement is ahead of the curve in fighting back.
- Moms for Liberty <[link removed]> and the Diocese of Lansing <[link removed]> are spreading the word to their audiences.
- The dangerous policy has received national coverage in The Federalist <[link removed]>, PJ Media <[link removed]>, National Review <[link removed]>, and The Daily Signal. <[link removed]>
- Local coalitions like Hands Off Our Kids MI <[link removed]> have the aircover to fight on the front lines.
But that’s just Michigan. To date, our growing Outreach Team at Heritage has shaped the agenda, attended, or sponsored 68 unique conferences or events in 18 states and Washington DC. Each of these efforts is to advance one or more of our policy priorities <[link removed]>, elevate our amazing experts and professionals, and build and grow the movement. All to save America.
Coalitions are the key to bringing success to the conservative movement, but it’s the America people and solving the real issues they face that gets us up in the morning.
This one shook me to my core <[link removed]> as a former high school and college athlete, but it’s a stark reminder that there’s much work to be done. Would you join a coalition to come alongside these high school girls and push back against policies that allow biological males in their locker room?

I’m so excited to introduce our new email product to the conservative movement in the coming weeks. Stay tuned and don’t hesitative to reach out at any time. I can’t wait to work with you!
For freedom,
Alexa
