Fall is upon us, and in this issue we will talk about the spectacular colors we are seeing as our local heritage trees change into vibrant shades of red and yellow.

As ever, there are a great deal of activities going on in ‘The Ville’ this month. Let’s look at some local updates:
* Northville’s Farmers Market is in its final 2 weeks of the season, offering Michigan goods & produce. Stop by 10/20 & 10/27 from 8AM - 3PM at 7 Mile & Center.

* Skeletons Come Alive in Downtown Northville through Halloween. Come see the Skeletons (120+ of them!) on display around the Ville through Halloween … LINK ([link removed])

* Celebrate History at the Northville Art House’s Halloween Cemetery Tour – Saturday, 10/22. For more info, call 248 344-0497.

* Streets of Treats in downtown 10/29, 10 AM – 12:30 PM with the Batman Car on Display, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce ... LINK ([link removed])

* Celebration of the Northville Community Support Fund (NCSF) ([link removed]) – The NCSF board has been working diligently to grow their 501(c)(3) organization, which supports projects that enhance the Northville community. Come to our launch event and learn all about it!
+ WHEN: Sunday, October 30, 3:00-5:00pm, free food and drink.
+ WHERE: The Water Wheel Centre, 235 East Main Street, Suite 102C, Northville
+ WHAT: Tour our first project – the Restoration of South Main Park, located next door.

* Northville’s Parmenter’s Cider Mill, since 1873 – (630 Baseline), open for the season. Also on its campus, check out Northville Winery & Brewing Co. w/ its music (voted top Local Cider Mill in the Metro by SEMCOG).

* Concerts every Friday & Saturday at 7:00 PM through October – Downtown

COLORS IN THE VILLE

Fall is here with the trees changing to spectacular colors, and the aroma of bonfires along with the sweet smell of cider is in the air.
In this week’s newsletter I would like to talk about where to enjoy the fall colors around Northville. I suggest experiencing the following areas:
* Stop by one of Michigan’s oldest cider mills (on the Rouge River) known as Parmenter’s Northville Cider Mill, located at 714 Baseline Road (ranked as the #1 Cider Mill by SEMCOG). Watch them make that sweet-smelling nectar using local apples while enjoying the colors of the trees around them.

* Afterwards, experience our historic Mill Race Village (215 Griswold St) next to Ford Field to take in the local colors and admire the brilliant fall reflections off the Mill Pond & the Middle Rouge River.

* Walk down Dunlap Street in town with its historic Victorian homes and trees dating back to the mid-1800’s. Experience their history, color and beauty. Continue your stroll in the Ville through our various traditional burgs, including the Historic District, Cabbage Town, Beal Town, and Orchard Heights. View some of the past State & National champion trees in these areas as they display their fall colors.

* Traverse through Wayne County’s Cass Benton Park on Hines Drive along the Rouge River that runs between Northville and Dearborn. The State’s oldest Arboretum is in our community on Hines Drive… Remember, it’s not the destination that’s important in life but the journey itself, so enjoy the colors on the trip down the Parkway.

* Another great area to visit is Maybury State Park, off Beck or 8 Mile. The Park includes close to 1000 acres of gently rolling terrain, open meadows and mature forests, giving spectacular fall bursts of colors around its ponds, hardwood forests and open areas.

* Fish Hatchery Park is yet another area to take a walk down by the river, its pond area, or winding paths (635 Fairbrook – 7 Mile & Orchard Dr.).

* Some of the oldest and most colorful trees in the area make up the canopy of Rural Hill Cemetery... it is truly spectacular and peaceful this time of year (215 W. 7 Mile/Rogers).


Next week, we will conclude our Fall Series, by sharing stories about our Classic Halloween celebrations in the Ville. As you are aware, breathtaking fall colors can also be found by going north to several “Pure Michigan” areas – like the Tunnel of Trees in Harbor Springs, throughout our Upper Peninsula and up to the Leelanau Peninsula in the Traverse City area. But quite honestly, to see some of the same fantastic bursts of colors, we don’t have to go much farther than our own back yards.

So, experience Fall to the fullest in our “Hamlet in the Hills” we call home (also known to many as the “Switzerland of Wayne County”).
