The northern long-eared bats are one of the three federally protected animals that call the Boundary Waters home and are a crucial part of the Boundary Waters ecosystem. They help to control the insect population, pollinate plants, and spread native seeds. A Twin Metals mine would destroy their natural habitat and put them further at risk of extinction. |
The hibernacula and roost trees within the Boundary Waters forest that the northern long-eared bats call home would be cleared to build the infrastructure for the mines. The noise, dust and light pollution from 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year mining operations would affect behavior - especially the ability to hunt - both inside and outside of the Boundary Waters putting them and other wildlife further at risk.
I don’t need to ask if you’re with me. If you’re reading this, I already know you are. But I am asking you to become a monthly sustainer today.
