There’s a term in politics used to describe a last-minute momentum shift in the weeks leading up to a big election -- something that can completely flip a race on its head.

It’s called an October Surprise, and since my opponent and I are basically tied, anything that comes out of left field could ultimately decide the outcome of this race.

That’s why a huge outpouring of grassroots support is absolutely critical to getting us through October.

Can I count on you to split a $10 donation between my campaign and Amy Klobuchar? We have to raise $100,000 in the next week to keep our TV ads on the air.

This is one of the closest races in the country, John.

Which means that anything and everything could have an outsized impact on the outcome of the race.

If I’m being honest, John, I don’t like leaving things up to chance. I’d much rather put some distance between me and my opponent in the polls so that we can pull off a win in November.
