John,
Today is the 50-year anniversary of the Clean Water Act – a monumental piece of environmental legislation.
The Clean Water Act was intended to “restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the Nation’s waters.” Federal dollars provided by the Clean Water Act allowed for the building and improvement of many wastewater treatment plants across the country.
But 50 years later, an unprecedented climate emergency is overwhelming these aging wastewater systems which are dumping hundreds of billions of gallons of raw sewage into our waterways each year – polluting water resources, endangering public health and damaging our environment.
Climate change is driving extreme weather that worsens sewage overflows and dumps toxic waste in cash-strapped communities across the country. The health and safety of people everywhere is at stake.
To tackle these issues, we’re fighting for strong, permanent federal investment in our water and wastewater infrastructure. Equitable access to clean, safe water for all is vital for building the livable future we envision.
John, your monthly gift to Food & Water Watch can provide the consistent funding we need to continue working to improve water quality, affordability and access, as well as promote climate resilience. Your monthly gift will be MATCHED $2-to-$1 until the end of 2023!

Federal funding for clean water should never be on the chopping block. But all too often it is. Now is the time to fully fund our wastewater infrastructure to help clean up our waterways and protect our communities.
We need all hands on deck working to strengthen and enforce the Clean Water Act – and we also need to expand on it with the Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity and Reliability (WATER) Act, which would protect access to clean water for all, support a publicly-owned water system and create jobs in the process.
It’s going to take all of us raising our voices together to pass landmark legislation like the WATER Act. Be a champion for clean, safe water for all! Start your monthly gift to Food Water Watch today and we’ll match it $2-to-$1 until the end of 2023!
