I’m excited to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and in the First District of Kansas. Please feel free to share this email with family and friends who may be interested. As always, if you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please contact my office - my staff and I are here and ready to assist you. Yours in service, Mann.House.Gov House Republicans' Commitment to America A Nation that's Safe President Biden and Washington Democrats continue to jeopardize America’s national security through their open-door border policies and senseless war on domestic fossil fuels. The Biden-Harris Administration’s refusal to secure our southern border has created a humanitarian crisis and led to more than 3.5 million illegal border crossings since January 2021. Washington Democrats have also compromised our national security by threatening our energy independence and forcing us to rely on foreign energy sources. When Republicans earn back the U.S. House of Representatives, we will: Enhance border security funding and implement enforcement strategies. Exercise peace through strength with our allies to counter increasing global threats. Maximize the production of domestic energy and make America energy independent again. This is our Commitment to America. Listen to my full message below. Learn more about the Commitment to America Policy Plan here. Mann.House.Gov In the Office House Republicans send letter to GAO regarding foreign investments in U.S. farmland The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that as of December 2020, foreign ownership and investment in U.S. agricultural land has nearly doubled in the past decade. The staggering increase in foreign-owned land in the U.S. has elevated Americans’ concerns about our food and national security. I joined 129 of my colleagues to send a letter to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Comptroller General, Gene Dodaro, requesting a study regarding foreign investment in U.S. farmland and the impact on national security, food security, and trade. Read the letter below. Protect Farmers from the SEC Act In March, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a proposed rule which would mandate that all publicly traded companies issue extensive climate disclosures, including detailed reports for every company in their supply chain. Agricultural producers are among the largest suppliers of raw materials to public companies; almost every farmer or rancher has products that will eventually touch a public company. While farm and ranch operations are not public companies, they could still be obligated to track and report data on their greenhouse gas emissions because of their prevalence in the supply chain. This proposed rule goes beyond the SEC’s statutory authority, buries producers in even more onerous regulations, and infringes upon the privacy of the producers who feed, fuel, and clothe the world. That's why I co-sponsor the Protect Farmers from the SEC Act. This bill would exclude American producers from these burdensome reporting requirements. Farmers and ranchers are the original conservationists. They shouldn’t be subject to overreaching climate regulations from the SEC. Click here to read the full text of the legislation.
