John,
WWF's
Living Planet Report 2022 published last week has bad news for all of us who care about wildlife and nature.
It found a 69% decrease in wildlife populations since 1970. And the problem is even worse in some areas, especially tropical regions of Asia-Pacific and Latin America, where populations are plummeting in some of the most biodiverse places in the world.
The Living Planet Report 2022 is a comprehensive study of trends in global biodiversity and the overall health of the planet, and its most recent findings are clear: we need to urgently change course if we want to secure a better future for nature, people, and the planet. Making this ambitious shift will require leaders around the world and all levels of society to come together and redouble our efforts to promote conservation and tackle climate change.
Specifically in the US,
our elected officials can play a significant part by boosting conservation funding through key federal programs. Congress is planning next year's spending bill right now; this is a key time to secure the significant increase in conservation support that's needed to take on these massive challenges to our natural world.
By investing in conservation, we can still help reverse course on biodiversity loss, protect wildlife, and ensure a positive future for our planet.
