Last week, my colleagues on the January 6th Select Committee resumed their work revealing the full truth of the violent insurrection on the Capitol.

We have known for some time that Donald Trump bears substantial responsibility for the violent insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. After all, he summoned the mob, filled them with lies about the election, and directed them to go to the Capitol and “fight like hell” that fateful day.

In its most recent public hearing, the committee uncovered even more disturbing information, including new evidence and video that showed Trump knew he had lost the election but still attempted to overturn the results, efforts which encouraged insurrectionists to attack the U.S. Capitol.

Significantly, the committee also voted unanimously to subpoena Donald Trump himself.

It is obvious that Trump not only committed a dereliction of duty that day, but there is also evidence that he and his inner circle were far more involved in the planning and implementation of the insurrection than we previously knew.

And, there is surely more to the story we have yet to uncover. That’s why it is paramount to the sanctity of our democracy for Trump himself to testify under oath.

All public servants – especially the President – are accountable to the American people, above all else. Donald Trump is the one person at the center of the story of what happened on January 6, and he must answer for his actions.

Of course, Trump responded exactly as we’d expect: He sent an angry letter to the committee lashing out at the panel and its work as a “witch hunt,” defending himself and the violent mob. He even boasted about the size of the crowd as he continued to spread the Big Lie. He called the violent insurrectionists nothing more than protestors acting as “concerned American citizens.”

We must make it clear that we won’t allow Trump to get away with his actions that led to loss of life and continue to threaten the very core of our democracy. Add your name right away to stand with us in our pursuit of justice and truth. [link removed]

I am grateful for the amazing job my colleagues on this committee have done – without their tireless commitment to getting the facts on the record, there would be no hope.

We must take the threat of Trumpism, and the violent white Christian nationalism that animates it, very seriously – especially with the midterm elections right around the corner.

As your Congressman, I will continue to stand in the way of GOP extremists – and work to strengthen and repair our nation – but I need your help. Each and every one of us has a role to play in restoring our democracy.

Please stay engaged.

Thanks,

Jared
