AFL Files Federal Civil Rights Complaint Against Starbucks for Illegal, Destructive, Racially Discriminatory Hiring Practices
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, as part of its initiative under the Center for Legal Equality, America First Legal (AFL) asked the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to open a civil rights investigation into Starbucks for violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. AFL also wrote to Starbucks’ Chair, Mellody Hobson, and its Board of Directors demanding that the Company’s management stop violating its fiduciary duty to shareholders.
In 2020, Starbucks announced its commitment to “advancing social and racial equity,” and began implementing mentorship programs open to only Black, Indigenous and People of color as well as hiring quotas based on race.
In 2022, Starbucks doubled down and launched the “Leadership Accelerator Program” based on increasing “diverse representation in the leadership pipeline at Starbucks.” Hiring based on immutable characteristics such as race is illegal under federal law.
The odious, divisive, and destructive policies of Starbucks must be stopped. AFL is determined to stop the despicable “equity” policies of woke companies across the United States and continues to fight for equal opportunity for all Americans.
Statement from America First Legal President Stephen Miller:
“As a trailblazing civil rights organization, America First Legal is leading the battle against woke corporate racism. Our Center for Legal Equality is filing a civil rights complaint against Starbucks for adopting an illegal system of racial quotas to exclude qualified applicants based solely on their race, an unambiguous and egregious violation of federal civil rights law,” said Stephen Miller.
