Monday Nature Mystery

We are pleased to announce the winner of our Monday Nature Mystery, Phoenix Poppendeck. (Please email your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .)

Congratulations to Phoenix for identifying the Eastern Red Bat (Lasiurus borealis). According to Leslie Sturges’ Bats of VA ([link removed]) , these beautiful bats are solitary and live in tree foliage. Unlike most bats, they regularly give birth to multiple pups. They can be spotted during migration and mating season when they fly in late afternoon and at dusk.
