Team,
It’s been quite a year, and we’re nearly to Election Day – 22 days to be specific. So, since there are just 22 days until the 2022 midterms, we thought we’d send a recap of this truly packed year.
New District:
Let’s start at the beginning: we found out what the new 7th district would look like in December 2021. With the addition of 3 new counties, 28,382 more people, and 1,310 more square miles, we knew we had our work cut out for us. Thirty-five percent of the 7th district is new to Elissa. That’s why she immediately hit the ground with one important question in mind for the folks of the new 7th: what do you *actually* want to see from your representative?
Snow Boots on the Ground:
That question was at the forefront of our minds as we kicked off Snow Boots on the Ground -- our first tour around the new district. It was an appropriate name for a tour of mid-Michigan in the middle of February! This was Elissa’s first big chance to knock on some doors, meet a ton of local leaders, visit some small businesses, and begin building out the volunteer networks that we would rely on later.

Petitions:
Our next big milestone was turning in 2,000 signatures – the maximum number possible – to officially get Elissa’s name on the ballot. Three hundred dedicated volunteers spent nights and weekends at events and popular community gathering spaces to collect a total of 5,000 signatures from all 7 counties in the new district. These folks are the backbone of our campaign, so it was only fitting that we throw a party to celebrate in April, right after Elissa turned in the petitions.

Gazebos and Festivals:
Then, it was on to the summer. People were out and about in the new district and we were determined to meet as many of them as possible. Mid-Michigan loves a unique summer festival and we had a presence at as many as we possibly could. We brought back a 2020 Team Slotkin favorite – the Gazebo Tour. Elissa had the chance to talk to big crowds about lowering the cost of prescription drugs, bringing manufacturing back to America, and ensuring a brighter future for our kids.

TV and Digital Ads:
Another highlight of summer? Launching our TV and digital ads. Our first TV ad launched on 4th of July weekend, and we’ve released 7 more since – you can check them all out here [[link removed]] . These ads have been an especially critical part of running in a brand new district. As hard as Elissa tries, she can’t meet every single person in the new 7th. And, because this is the most expensive House race in the entire country, a lot of folks have been bombarded with negative ads about her. Our ads have been a crucial part of introducing Elissa and setting the record straight.
MSU Campus Plan:
A significant part of our strategy has been trying to talk to as many MSU students as we possibly can, and registering them to vote in East Lansing. Peer-to-peer outreach has been the name of the game here. We've been hosting “dorm storms” – events where our part-time student organizers distribute registration information to the students that live in their *actual* dorm. Since we’re always hiring new student organizers, if you know an MSU student that may want to join Team Slotkin, send them to [link removed]. We have flexible, paid opportunities for them to register their fellow students on campus, spread critical information about voting, work directly with campaign staff, and get some real-life campaign experience.
Non-stop Voter Outreach:
Now, we’re in the final stretch. Our field team has been working non-stop to reach voters in the new 7th. Distributing yard signs, knocking on doors, making phone calls, training up student organizers on MSU’s campus – anything to ensure mid-Michigan voters have a plan to make their voices heard.

It’s definitely been a crazy year, and we want to thank you for being along for the ride with us. It’s because of people like you that we’ve been able to host events, hire staff, run ads on TV, and everything else that goes into running a strategic campaign. We still have a bit more up our sleeves, so with just 22 days to go, will you chip in $22 to help us reach the finish line? [[link removed]]
