Dear John,
The Trump Administration has worked every day to hand Dow Chemical a license to pollute our communities, poison bees and harm our children. It even reversed a proposed ban on Dow’s toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos.
This chemical is horrible for our environment and public health. It’s the second most toxic pesticide to bees. It’s linked to brain damage -- and the risks of exposure are even higher for children. But it’s being used to grow our food.
Even as the Trump Administration sides with Dow over our children, we can still get this pesticide out of our food system. Supermarkets like Kroger could stop selling food grown with chlorpyrifos. But we need your help to push them to act!
Tell Kroger’s CEO: Stop selling food grown with toxic pesticides NOW!
Pesticides like chlorpyrifos are doing incredible harm to our environment. A study in Germany found that the number of pollinators and other flying insects has declined by more than 75 percent over the last 25 years, and a key driver of this decline is toxic pesticides. Scientists say this indicates we are in the midst of an “ecological Armageddon, potentially around the world.”
Bees and other insects are canaries in the coal mine. They’re showing us that the way we produce our food is making vast tracts of land inhospitable to life.
What’s more, chlorpyrifos is dangerous to our health. It was banned for home use in 2001 due to its clear impact on the developing brains of children.
Chlorpyrifos is so hazardous that even the smallest amounts lower kids’ IQs, cause arm tremors in children, and structurally change the parts of the brain that control language and memory. Based on this information, Hawaii, California and New York have all taken steps to ban chlorpyrifos entirely.
The science is clear: We need to get this toxic chemical out of our food system and communities. It’s time for Kroger step up and protect its consumers where the federal government has failed.
Tell Kroger’s CEO: Help stop the “ecological Armageddon!” Stop selling food grown with bee-killing pesticides NOW!
Scientists and doctors agree chlorpyrifos shouldn’t be anywhere near the foods we eat. And that our children must be protected from this brain-damaging pesticide.
We can’t stand idly by as Dow Chemical buys Trump’s permission to keep poisoning people and the planet with its highly toxic chemicals.
If we want to save the bees, we need to rapidly shift our food production away from pesticides that are poisoning people and pollinators. Supermarkets could help make that happen -- starting with Kroger, one of the largest supermarkets in the country. But we need your help to convince Kroger to act.
Tell Kroger’s CEO: Stop selling food grown with Dow’s toxic brain-damaging chemical!
Standing with you,
