John, when Biden
recently pardoned thousands of people who were convicted for marijuana
possession under federal law, he got an immense amount of praise from the
legalization community.
And while it was an incredible first step that many of us fought for, it
was far from enough.
The pardons impacted only a fraction of those with marijuana related
charges because so many of those charges are on the state and local level.
So let’s talk about a real, more comprehensive solution.
We need more District Attorneys who will stop prosecuting marijuana
offenses and also expunge prior offenses — and that’s not only a hope for
the future but something we’ve been working toward for the past five
years.
Our DAs have vacated over 80,000 past marijuana convictions in states
where it is legal, including in Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Many of our DAs have also stopped prosecuting marijuana offenses in states
where it's not legal, including
* Joe Gonzales, John Creuzot, and Josè Garza in Texas
* Stephanie Morales, Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, and Steve Descano in
Virginia — before VA legalized weed Jason Williams in New Orleans, LA
This is the real work that is going to get folks out of jail and out of
fines they don’t deserve. NO ONE deserves to be criminalized and have
their housing and employment put at-risk for a plant that is making
investors millions.
To make sure we have even more DAs ready to fight back, stop prosecuting
people for marijuana convictions and undo the harms of the past by adding
to the 80,000 vacated marijuana convictions, we need your help.

It’s time we destigmatize marijuana once and for all — and that starts
with having DAs to back up the legal fight.
