Dear John,
I always knew my daughter Kairi was special. But I didn't know just how special.
When she was 9 years old, Kairi's pediatrician noticed her spleen was much bigger than it should be. My wife and I rushed her out of the annual exam and took her straight to the Emergency Department at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where she underwent extensive testing.
We were terrified to learn that her liver was engulfed by scar tissue and more than 60 percent of her kidneys were badly scarred and atrophied--which means that they were mostly wasted away. That was the day I felt my heart break into a thousand pieces.
As the parent of a longtime CHLA patient, I'm writing to ask you to make a year-end gift, whatever you can afford, to help make a difference for families like mine. I've learned that Credit Unions for Kids will match every dollar you donate to the Children's Fund until midnight, Dec. 31, so you'll make TWICE the difference for kids like Kairi. Please give $10 or more now >>

John, I'm just one of many parents who have struggled with the heartbreak of learning a child has a serious illness. And while my daughter IS special, she's also one of many, many children battling illness and relying on the expert treatment that CHLA provides.
As difficult as this experience has been for our family, the kindness, compassion and expert care we've received at CHLA have sometimes left me speechless. These last couple of years have felt like an eternity, and I don't wish for any parent to go through what we've been through--ever. But if they do, I want them to have access to the same incredible treatment we've had.
We've been through years of testing, regular checkups and heartache, but I'm thrilled to share that our Kairi--who has been incredibly brave through all of it--just received a kidney and liver transplant in July.
Will you make a tax-deductible gift of $10 or more now to ensure other kids have access to the same life-changing treatments and care my daughter has received at CHLA? Until Dec. 31, your gift will have 2X the impact.

Today, my daughter's whole life has changed. She used to spend her days in bed, but now she plays with her dogs, makes and posts videos and writes scary stories. My little girl is finally getting to experience what every child should--the joy and fun of being a kid.
And we have people like you to thank for it.
It's incredible for me to think about that. I've gone from feeling like my world was falling apart to having hope for my daughter's future today. And thousands of people I've never met--and never will--helped make that possible.
I hope you'll be one of the people who pitch in today to make a difference tomorrow for another family just like mine. Every dollar means so much--it means hope, possibility and the chance to live a full life free of pain and filled with joy. It's what I believe every child deserves, and I hope you agree. Please, give by Dec. 31 to make TWICE the difference for kids. >>
