John, the GOP nominee for Missouri's open Senate seat, Eric Schmitt, likes to talk a lot about his working-class roots. But the only time he actually thinks about working families is when he's reading off the talking points his Washington consultants wrote for him.

You see, Eric Schmitt has spent his career in politics making life harder for everyday families here in Missouri. He turned his back on family farms when he voted to let oligarchs from Communist China buy up Missouri farmlands. He attacks our unions and has repeatedly voted to gut collective bargaining protections. He filed a lawsuit to let health insurance companies charge Missouri women and seniors more for healthcare. And when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it only took him six minutes to make Missouri the first state in the country to enforce an extreme, out-of-touch trigger ban on abortion.

It's no secret why Eric Schmitt is leaving working families behind. He's taken thousands in gifts from lobbyists and campaign contributions from special interests. In short, he sold out working families. He sold out the people he swore to represent. And he sold out Missouri. 

Being a good leader isn't about where you come from or who your family is. It's about who you fight for and what you do with the power that's given to you.

Trudy Busch Valentine has spent her life serving her community as a nurse, a children's advocate, and a hospice volunteer.
