|
|
WHO: Gov. Jim Justice, Director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Brett McMillion, other officials.
WHAT: Gov. Justice will hold a grand opening ceremony to celebrate improvements to The Bowden State Fish Hatchery.
The Bowden Hatchery was built by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the 1960's and the WVDNR began operating the facility in 1997. Over the past few years, Bowden has been rehabilitated into a state of the art aquaculture facility. Prior to the rehabilitation, Bowden Hatchery produced approximately 200,000 pounds of trout annually. Bowden is now expected to produce more than 300,000 lbs annually now that upgrades have been completed. The hatchery also now has over 1-mile of fish rearing units.
The facility operates with recirculating water, including a filtering system to help keep the Shaver Fork River clean, an ultraviolet sterilization system to help control fish disease, and oxygenation to keep trout healthy and improve their growth.
WHEN: Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Bowden State Fish Hatchery
Old Rte 33
